White Nose Syndrome has Killed over 6 Million Bats since 2006
Posted May 9, 2012

We need bats. As much as they can carry rabies and other diseases, they are very important in controlling the amount of night flying insects such as
mosquitoes, moths, beetles, and other potentially harmful bugs. These insects spread things like West Nile
Virus and Heartworm but also destroy a lot of crops. This disease arrived from Europe and spread across the US northeast and adjacent provinces. If you go spelunking this summer then please be aware of your role in controlling the spread of this disease (http://www.caves.org/WNS/) .
